Skunk Sessions: "i've been here before" CD Artwork
I used NASA's original 1959 "meatball" and 1975 - 1992 "worm" logo lettering as inspiration for the two fonts I chose to use on the CD wallet packaging layout. However, at the same time, I wanted to coordinate the typography with the hand-drawn lettering of artist, Mike Mischo, in the ring around the planet. I went with a lined version of the font for the song list to invoke an old school computer print-out vibe. The boys in the band laid out the planet and spaceman on the back and front covers, respectively. I created more "hose" to move the spaceman to the left side and as an embellishment on the back.
We tried several options for the disc... just the planet, just the spaceman in several different positions and proportions. The boys in the band decided they liked the spaceman small as below. They suggested I add a length of hose with the band name on it. I brought the hose to the foreground to bring the type up to a legible size. I was also asked to change the spaceman's uniform badge to read, "SKUNK". In the original artwork it reads, "NASA".
CD Release Promo Items
The original ink drawing created by Mike Mischo was scanned. I adjusted the color to match the drawing. I also isolated the three graphic elements: planet, spaceman and shooting star. Additionally, I created a background image from the original artwork upon which I could layout the isolated graphic elements at will to design any necessary marketing collateral including thus far – the CD wallet, disc, banner, poster, sticker and social media post artwork.
Social Media Post Artwork
In this series of posts I placed the album artwork's signature character among some of the world's most notable landmark structures. Using the album title, "i've been here before", as inspiration I edited each photo to create otherworldly landscapes of these familiar locales. These images were all derived from photographs. I used a variety of filters and techniques throughout the series to stylize each.
FLASH50 IPA for ALS: Celebration with Skunk Sessions
On Saturday, March 27, 2021 the Funky Bow Brewery (Lyman, ME) in conjunction with Kathy Flaschner released the "FLASH50 IPA" in honor of her husband, John "Flash" Flaschner's 50th Birthday and to raise awareness and funds to treat ALS. Skunk Sessions (Eric Reardon, Derek Hayden, Adam "Tugboat" Saylor and Brandon Tarricone) with special guests Henley Douglas, Jr. (saxophone) and Jeff Buckridge (guitar) performed. The video below contains 6:50 minutes of the sights and sounds of that amazing day and night! The SOSS crew was in attendance and happy to be there to celebrate Flash and support the cause. If possible, PLEASE donate whatever you can to support those suffering from ALS and their caretakers @ http://webnne.alsa.org/
I edited several video clips (recorded by other attendees), added the spaceman, planet and artwork above to create the montage below. I also created the SOSS Records YouTube end screen animated graphic on this file.
